In The Prayer Room

Rev. O.W. Bush was born in Smithville, Georgia, where as a boy he picked peanuts on Jimmy Carter’s farm. In March 1969, he moved his family to Louisville, and quickly got involved in gospel music there. He joined the nascent Kingdom Land Baptist Church and directed their choir (see Disc 1, Track 7 for a recording of that choir under his direction). He also became a member of a quartet called The Sensational Majestics along with Charlie Smith of the Deep River Song Birds and others.

In 1972, Rev. Bush became the pastor of Union Baptist Church. In the 1970s, he recorded two albums with the Union Baptist Church Choir for Randy’s Spiritual Records. “Get Away Jordan” appeared on the first of those albums, In the Prayer Room, which was recorded at Allen & Martin Studio and features Roberta Randall on piano, John Watkins on organ, William Vance and Tony Thorn on guitar, Robert Gill and Nathaniel “Peewee” Brown on bass, and Bobby Williams on drums.
