Larry Adams was a longtime member of Cable Baptist Church where he played piano for many years under the musical direction of organist Paul Merritt. Adams graduated from Central High School and went on to receive formal musical training at the University of Louisville and Central State in Ohio (formerly Wilberforce University). He played with many groups in Louisville including The Gospel Majors and The Traveling Notes, and he was the founder and composer of Larry Adams Limited, a gospel ensemble of 12-20 singers. Larry Adams Limited recorded one LP, Jesus Loves Me, on the Grace Gospel label in 1975.
Ben Jones, who played with Adams at Cable Baptist Church in the 1970s, remembers that:
Larry Adams was like the Andrae Crouch or Edwin Hawkins of Louisville. In fact he went to California and worked with those types of people. When he came back, he brought a contemporary singer-songwriter element to his music. It was almost a classical element in the instrumentation. They’d have four soloists with six beautiful singers articulating whatever they were doing. He brought that back home to Cable and introduced that ensemble to Louisville.
