Jesus Won't Forget Me Now

Notes

Founded in 1934 and originally named The Independent Four, The Carnation Quintette were on of Louisville's longest-running and admired gospel groups, with Van Eva Jeffries leading the group for a staggering seventy-six years until her death in 2010. Many powerful singers were members of The Carnation Quintette over the years, including Delores Crutcher of The Gospel Majors and Janice Dukes, the founder and longtime manager of God's Girls. This performance from an episode of Bishop Cliff Butler's "Lifting Jesus" TV show is from January 1974 and features Janice Dukes on lead. In the white dress is Jeannie Pickett Rochell, the sister of legendary soul singer Wilson Pickett. Bishop Butler's son Lamont Butler preserved the original 2" quadruplex videotape reel for over 40 years before partnering with the Louisville Story Program to digitize it.
