Lord Don't Leave Me

Notes

The Gospel Chanteurs were formed around 1972 when Della Porter, Sylvia Davis, Gail Bailey, Dorothy Fitzgerald, and Geneva Dunlap left The Traveling Notes to form their own group. While the group never made a studio recording, they toured widely. This live recording of “Lord Don’t Leave Me” was from a 1974 appearance on Bishop Cliff Butler’s gospel variety television show, Lifting Jesus, on March 28, 1074. The lineup featured Della Porter, Geneva Dunlap, Dorothy Fitzgerald, and Janet Kavanaugh, who also directed The Indiana Community Choir. The group performed together for three years and disbanded when Rev. Porter answered her call to ministry. Footage courtesy of Lamont Butler.
