Lord Take My Hand / There Must Be A God Somewhere

The Sensational Bells of Joy were from Anderson, Indiana. The group was originally called The Nunn Singers and featured teenage brothers Calvin, Eddie, J.D., and Spencer Nunn. One day Calvin Nunn heard his fifteen-year-old Anderson High School classmate Edgar Woodall sing and was so impressed that he asked him to join the group. Bass player Ensley Windham also joined the group around that time. Woodall and Windham asked if they could change the group's name to something more inclusive, and they decided on The Bells of Joy. They soon discovered that there were already many existing groups around the country called The Bells of Joy, so they changed their name to The Sensational Bells of Joy. Calvin played guitar and sang lead along with Edgar. Spencer (and later Carol Lee Bannister) played drums, and Roosevelt Boyd was their manager. Encouraged by audiences' responses to their performances, they soon drove 150 miles to record with Joe Thomas at BJ Sounds Studio in Louisville in 1966. They recorded at BJ Sounds several times over the next few years. The group disbanded around 1974.
