Rev. Eddie James moved from Alabama to Louisville in the 1940s when he was seventeen years old. He went on to serve as pastor of Second Baptist Church in Charlestown, Indiana. He also hosted a radio show on WLOU and ran the DJS record label along with Argie Dale and C.W. Sharpe. His family group consisted of his wife Mary Ruth on piano, children Wayne, Angela, Stephanie, Karen, and Mary Ann, and grandson Andre. Rev. Eddie James and Family recorded two albums in the mid-1970s, Live From Second Baptist Church on Bishop Cliff Butler's Blessed label, and Soon One Morning, a studio album recorded at Falk Audio for Randy's Spiritual Record Co. of Gallatin, Tennessee.
Rev. Andre James says about his grandparents:
They were both spirit-filled people. They taught us how to respect one another and accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior. My grandfather was good at radio announcing. He was good at pastoring. He was good at singing. He was good at uplifting the name of Jesus toward people, telling them what we must do to be saved. My grandma taught me how to play piano when I was seven. They were really proud of me when I started playing piano and organ. Everything was rolling at our church back then. I'm just trying to keep it going.
[The live album was recorded] on a Saturday night when I was about four or five years old. Cliff Butler was playing the tambourine, Archie Dale was playing the guitar. They recorded the whole service. They had tape recording equipment on wheels. We were just having a good time. If you're singing for the Lord, you'll have a good time. He's in the midst. Just go.
