Louisville's Silvertones were the first African Americans to appear on WAVE TV. They used to sing on WAVE's Sunday morning radio show. When the station made the switch from radio to television, The Silvertones made the switch also. This photograph is of the original members including George Duncan, Charles Lowery, Leroy Marshall, and Eugene Shelbourne. Charles Lowery was also awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Barack Obama because his unit was the 1st to integrate the US Marine Corps. (Submitted by Dana Jones, granddaughter of George Duncan.)
